Hawkers threaten to kick Kidero out of office

Nairobi - Hawkers have threatened to kick Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero out of office if he does not address their teething problems.
The hawkers were protesting the apparent grabbing of a market in Eastleigh area which they said had been forcefully taken by a Private Developer and was already fenced, with construction ongoing.
They marched in the streets of the city Wednesday and demanded action by the Governor or that they will not vote for him come the 2017 elections.
The hawkers, numbered around 600 stated that the developer had been offered protection by the Nairobi County government and told the Governor to act on the issue or face them in the polls in 2017.
A mall is being constructed on the piece of land.

'Kidero must go and will go', they chanted.
They made their way to County Hall where they demanded to meet the Governor but he was not available.
Instead, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko joined them and gave the government a three day ultimatum to stop the construction, failure to which he would seek a court order.
" The government must stop the harassment of the normal mwananchi. This land clearly belongs to the public and that must be respected," he stated.
Kidero, in a rejoinder, said that the County's legal team would look at the matter.
" We are looking at it. There have been various complaints in the past," he stated.
