Grief in Mukurwe-ini as Lucy Kibaki’s rural village sobs her death

Nyeri - A cloud of grief has engulfed residents of Ngooru village in Mukurwe-ini constituency, Nyeri County, where former First Lady Lucy Kibaki hails from.
Residents eulogized Lucy, who died at a London Hospital, as a caring person who would go to any length to assist the less fortunate in the society.
Her nephew, Bildad Kanuri, remembered her as strict disciplinarian who would go a long way to help them as young siblings grow upright and at the same time offering valuable advice to their lives.

Micheal Gichuhi, who is a neighbour at her rural home, said that recently even in her sickness they wrote to her seeking installation of an electricity transformer.
He said ‘true to her calling’ they are now able to light up their homesteads after their wish was granted through Lucy.
Area MP Kabando Wa Kabando said that unknown to many, Lucy helped her rural community in constructing churches, schools and also educating children from poor families.
He described Lucy as one who had indomitable spirit adding that what she has achieved in life is yet to be achieved by any other resident of his constituency.
He said that she will be remembered due to her passion towards community work citing Muhito PCEA Church Parish that she helped in construction through her personal donations in year 2006.
He added that Lucy was also a mentor to many youths in the area having been a pioneer teacher from humble family.
