Laikipia - A 65-year-old woman and her 10-month-old grand daughter have died in a fire at Village Three in Solio Settlement Scheme, Laikipia County.
Susan Nyaguthii and her grand daughter were asleep in their house when their three-roomed timber house caught fire.
Properties worth thousands of shillings were also reduced to ashes.
Residents said her house was locked from outside, which made it hard for the two to escape. Neighbours could also not get inside to save them.

Nothing was salvaged from the incident.
The area chief Peter Gitonga, who confirmed the incident urged local residents not to speculate the cause of fire until police complete their investigations.
The charred remains of the two were removed to Nanyuki Referral Hospital morgue.
