Governor Lusaka issues ultimatum to police to find missing MCA

16 March 2016, 14:35 Philomenah Chebet

Bungoma - Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has issued the police with an ultimatum to find a member of the local county assembly who reportedly went missing Tuesday night.

Bethwell Mwambu, the Mbakalo ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Tongaren Constituency was hijacked at his gate on his way home from Bungoma by unknown people.

“We have given the police until today 4pm to find the legislator. There is no way he can disappear just like that without a trace,” said Lusaka at the Mbakalo Police station.

The Governor had visited the police station together his deputy Hillary Chongwony, Bungoma County Assembly speaker John Makali and a number of MCAs.

Bungoma North OCPD Eliud Okello separately said they had received reports of the kidnapping and  his search to trace Mwambu is still ongoing.

The missing MCA’s driver had earlier told journalists that they were trailed by about five motorbikes while returning to the MCA's house from Bungoma. The attackers  who were in jungle uniform jumped from the motorbikes, pulled him from the wheel and drove off with the MCA.

“They were armed with guns and I couldn’t resist because I felt they could have harmed me if I did so. One of them sat on the drivers seat and drove off while two others held my boss hostage,” he said.
