Nyeri - More than 100 pupils have been evacuated from Cherab area in Isiolo County following heavy rains that led to floods and destruction of houses.
The pupils were rescued by a chopper hired by County Governor Godana Doyo.
They were not able to report back to school on time for second term after floods destroyed roads, and were evacuated to Isiolo and Merti towns to enable them to go back to school.
“I hired a chopper to ferry stranded pupils from Cherab due to heavy downpour. I also visited families whose houses were damaged as a result of the rains in Bassa,” the Governor said in a statement.

He added that trucks carrying food items were stuck and could not deliver the food to the affected families.
He however said deliberations were underway with the department of special programmes to offer relief food to the affected families.
“I call on relief Agencies like Kenya Red Cross to work together with the County government in supporting the affected families,” he stated.
