Governor commends President Kenyatta for fighting graft

18 December 2015, 13:10 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua has commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for his efforts in fighting corruption.

Gachagua said parliamentarians from the political divide should appreciate the President’s efforts saying that war on graft requires political unity.

Speaking in Nyeri town, Gachagua said President Kenyatta has taken the bold step of sacking Cabinet Secretaries adversely mentioned in graft and unethical cases.

“Corruption has been there since independence. The President should be commended for his willingness to eradicate it. He now needs support from other government institutions and politicians. War against graft should not be politicized by anybody including those in opposition,” said Gachagua.

He urged residents to avoid bribing public officers in order to get services.

Gachagua announced that the County Secretary’s office will open a direct communication line where residents will be reporting any case of corruption.

“I urge you to support me in ending bribery cases in my government. If any public officer demands a bribe in order to serve you, kindly report,” said the Governor.

He cited out department of Lands and Construction as the most affected by bribery cases in Nyeri County.

“Am aware the officers in charge of house-construction approval delay their services to get bribes. Approval should not exceed two weeks and if it does inform my office. I will not allow my government’s name to be tarnished by few people. I will sack them with immediate effect,” he warned.
