Governor accuses DP Ruto of spreading rumours that he has quit ODM

30 August 2016, 10:18 William Korir

Nairobi - A Governor has accused the Jubilee Coalition of spreading rumours that he has quit ODM.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae says that he is firmly in ODM and that rumours that he has quit the opposition party for the Jubilee Coalition are false.

He added that a trip to State House that was undertaken by Kisii leaders in July was development oriented and that talk by DP Ruto that he had made them quit the opposition was false.

Ongwae has received some hostility back in Kisii thanks to the rumours and says that they are all false.

" The stories came from DP Ruto who said he had converted leaders from Kisii to the Jubilee Coalition, which is false," he told News24 on phone.

According to Ongwae, he is still the Kisii ODM branch Secretary and that he will contest the 2017 elections through the party.

" This past weekend I attended a branch meeting in my capacity as Secretary and that will not change," he added.

Ongwae as well as Senator Chris Obure and some MPs have been accused of flirting with the Jubilee Coalition and have been treated with hostility whenever making public appearances in the County.
