19 August 2016, 14:56

Nairobi - Government to blame for increasing rates of Athletes changing their citizenship two-time World Marathon Champion Abel Kirui, has blamed the Government for increasing number of athletes changing their citizenship to other foreign countries.

He said this is due to much frustrations, that Kenyans athletes face.

"Our Kenyan Government has failed in taking care of our athletes, we are calling for those sports officials to be shown the door, look how they are performing this is because they are paid well to represent their countries "he said.

Speaking after signing up for 2016 UAP Ndakaini Half Marathon in Eldoret Kirui challenged Kenyan Government through the Ministry of sports to ensure the affairs of sportsmen and women are taken care of for better results.

"How can we perform well when we complains of poor pay, working conditions is the order of the day"he added.

He however urged Kenyans not to condemn Ezekiel Kemboi for being disqualified instead should thank him for the many years he has made Kenya proud.

"Kemboi is a legend and any athlete can make a mistake therefore we should not condemn him"he added.

He added, "I support Kembois move of calling off his retirement since he still energetic to represent Kenya" he said.
