Garissa University to be re-opened in January

Nairobi - The Garissa University College will be re-opened in January, the University's leadership has said.
The University has been closed since April when a terror attack saw 148 people mostly students killed by suspected Al Shabaab militia.
There had been a question mark as to whether it would be reopened especially thanks to the stigma involved as well as the memories of the attack.
The University though is defiant.
" All members of staff are informed that the
senate of Moi University has approved the reopening of Garissa
University College for learning during a special meeting of 9th December 2015," a memo from the University seen by News24 read..
" In the light of the above, the academic staff are hereby recalled back to Garissa from Eldoret,” it added.
The University's students and lecturers had all been sent to Eldoret which houses the Moi University Main Campus in light of the attacks.
Deputy President William Ruto had last month stated that it was a must for the University to be re-opened in-order to continue the gains made in the region thanks to its existence in the past.
