Bungoma - Police in Bungoma are holding four women who were arrested conning unsuspecting members of the public near a leading financial institution at Bungoma’s Moi avenue.
Confirming the arrests, Bungoma South Officer Commanding Police Division David Kirui said the four will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Addressing the press in his office, Kirui said that the four, identified has Prudence Wanjiru, Michell Nekesa, Mercy Mbugua and Irine Nasimiyu are notorious thieves who have been conning members of the public by selling them counterfeit mobile phones.
“We have received many complaints from members of the public who have lost their money to the cartel who will purport to sell you a mobile phone at KES 4 000 but they will demand that you first scratch certain cards to win a number of prices but you will be chased like a dog and won’t even get the phone,” said Kirui.
The OCPD warned members of the public against buying phones from such people and instead visit the registered outlets for genuine transactions.
“We also intercepted a number of items the cartel was selling to the unsuspecting public and we will use it has exhibit in court. They have conned a number of people and we want to stop them from continued con behavior because majority of people will lose their money during this school opening period,” he said.
He said that the cartels have invaded major towns like Kitale, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu and Eldoret where they are reaping where they have not sown.
