Mombasa - The anti- terror unit in Mombasa is detaining a former Recce squad officer who is linked to the Al-shabaab terror group in Somali.
According to the unit, the former Recce squad under the General Service Unit (GSU), Eric Ngethe Kanyigi escaped police arrest in July this year in Nairobi after police raided his home at Githurai 45 at around 2 am.
The Anti- terror unit also revealed that during the early July raid at his residence, police recovered three AK- 47 rifles, a total of 178 rounds of ammunition as well as nine magazines.
However, the officer who is believed to have strong links with Al-shabaab escaped and has for the past one and a half moths be hiding in Mombasa until Friday morning when he was netted.

Kanyigi was recruited in the General Service Unit GSU in the year 2012 and was operating as Recce Squad Officer until 2014 when he deserted his duties and disappeared.
Top security agents within the GSU who have been pursuing Kanyigi later revealed that the former Officer was recruited to the terror outfit Al-shabaab in Somali.
Kanyigi is said to have been planning major terror attacks at the GSU head quarters in Ruiru within Nairobi.
The Anti-terror unit officers in Mombasa will now hand him over to the criminal investigations headquarters in Nairobi for more interrogations.
