Former President, Mwai Kibaki’s property catches fire

Nyeri - A huge fire broke out at former President Mwai Kibaki’s 800-acre land in Narumoru, Nyeri County along Nyeri-Nanyuki road.
The mysterious fire whose source was not immediately established was however contained after one hour by area residents using tree branches. It had already burnt several acres.
The former head of state uses the vast land to feed his dairy cattle.

However, some eyewitnesses suspect that the fire was caused by a cigarette butt dropped by trespassers.
The flames were fanned by winds in the semi-arid area threatening to raze some roadside business ventures but did not cause any structural damage.

“We just saw the fire but we don’t know how it started. There are people who trespass through the land on foot and a smoker could have dropped a cigarette butt,” said Kamau Wambugu, a matatu conductor.
