Flying Squad officers arrest Nyamweya over Harambee Stars fiasco

Nairobi - Football Kenya Federation FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya has been arrested by Flying Squad officers over the melee which led to national team Harambee Stars nearly missing out on a trip to Cape Verde.
The FKF boss was picked up by the officers Tuesday morning and is currently being questioned at the Kilimani Police Station.
The issue arose after the Stars failed to travel on time for a return leg World Cup qualifier in Cape Verde over lack of airfare and unpaid allowances.
The Stars were to leave for Cape Verde Friday evening but a lack of allowances meant that they did not travel and the logistics of the trip meant that there was need to charter a flight.
Come Monday, the Stars had not been paid and the owners of the chartered flight also demanded their money.
The Stars ended up leaving Kenya for Cape Verde 24 hours to the match.
" We have him in custody over the embezzlement of funds meant for the national team," a CID officer who is a part of the investigations told News24.
The Stars are set to play the Cape Verde Tuesday at 10 PM local time.
