Nairobi - Football Kenya Federation FKF boss Sam Nyamweya is set to be charged with fraudulently using KES 17 million allocated to national team Harambee Stars.
Nyamweya was arrested in November in the aftermath of the national team's trip to Cape Verde after the Stars nearly failed to travel due to a lack of funds and unpaid allowances.
The government however insisted that it had handed Nyamweya and other top FKF officials KES 17 million to pay for the trip and allowances.
Nyamweya, never far from controversy has always insisted that he is innocent.
" The DCI recommends the prosecution of Samson Nyamweya and others at the Football Kenya Federation for the fraudulent use of KES 17 million, it said in a statement.
The move will see Nyamweya, who is keen on running for the position of chairman in the upcoming elections under serious pressure to explain his candidature in the face of the allegations.
