Five reasons why divorce is common nowadays

19 April 2016, 15:59 Philomenah Chebet

Although divorce was previously uncommon in Africa community set-ups, the separations after marriage are almost becoming a norm now.

In other developed countries and the United States for example, nearly half of the marriages accorddoing to statistics end up with the couple’s going separate ways.

Then why are people divorcing? Below are some of the reasons why?

1. Getting married for wrong reasons

Many young people get hitched up for various reasons today which include  marrying  for money , pressure from friends, family and relatives. A feeling of the aging and demand for the tradition and norms of the society. This contributes to unpreparedness to deal with marriage issues that as result lead to later divorce.

2. Conflicting vision of success.

Many couples complain of things changing later after marriage especially after characters going unnoticed during courtship where one is a spendthrift and the other is a saver. This implies that as one is thing of saving for the future the other is living as the day comes hence it will lead to conflict that will eventually lead to divorce.

3. Lack of existence of sex and romance in marriage.
Intimacy is vital in any marriage and when this dies it becomes a reason for divorce. Men need sexual receptivity to feel romantic and women need romance to be sexually receptive so as they both get  what they need they will willingly provide the other person want but when the romance fails it will to pulling back in the relationship and a feeling of being unloved and unappreciated will crip in leading to divorce.

4. Unmet expectations
Every normal human has various expectation when making plans to enter into a marriage.  Sometimes these expectations are too many to be achieved by the other party and as a result leads to complains,  satisfaction, blames, criticism, nagging and conflicts that will lead to unhappy marriage which is a receipe to divorce.

5. Sexual and emotional infidelity.

The advent of social media has definitely revolutionized the way we communicate. Dating and relationships have undoubtedly been made much easier, with the development of social media platforms such as Whatsapp, Facebook,  2go, Imo, Viber, Telegram among others.

But on the downside, it is argued that to some extent social media has made it almost impossible to stay faithful in a relationship in the present times! This has led to high rate of divorce as partners who spy on their spouses phone get incriminating evidence which makes them terminate unions.
