Nairobi - Tragedy struck at Lake Jipe in Taveta sub-county after a fisherman drowned during an ill-fated fishing expedition.
Police said the 60-year- ld victim was with a colleague when their boat capsized after powerful gales from Mt. Kilimanjaro swept over the lake.
His colleague, aged 51, braved the squall and survived by swimming for hours to the shore of the lake.

Confirming the accident, Taveta OCPD, Simon Gababa said the victim was unable to swim due to his advanced age and the chill of the lake water.
“He was an old man and couldn’t make it to the shore. His colleague however, managed to swim to safety,” he said.
There are also claims that the old man might have been a victim of hypothermia-a situation where a body’s temperature plunges to dangerously low levels as a result of prolonged exposure to cold.
Residents on boats later retrieved the body from the lake and took it to Taveta Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.
Lake Jipe is a trans-boundary water body that is shared by fishing communities from both Kenya and Tanzania.
