Bungoma - Over the weekend, fire razed a dormitory and five classrooms at Nzoia Industrial primary school in Kanduyi constituency.
Confirming the incident, the school Headteacher Macdick Wanyama disclosed that they incurred over KES 8 million loss in the incident.
“Pupils reported that the cause of the fire might have been an electric fault at the dormitory. In a span of five minutes after the fire started, the whole building was on fire, spreading to the classrooms,” said Wanyama.
The Headteacher disclosed that the pupils lost all their personal items including mattresses, books, uniforms and other personal belongings.
“No pupil was injured in the 2pm incident which caught us by surprise. It is a setback for the school and the community. We are looking for ways of helping the children to come to terms with what transpired,” he said.
Wanyama is now appealing to the County government, Nzoia sugar Company, well wishers, education office and individuals of good will to help the school put up new classes and dormitory so that pupils can continue learning. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
