FGM on the rise among rich families in Nakuru

Nakuru - The chairman of the Kenya Anti-FGM board has said that female genital mutilation is rampant among rich families in Nakuru county.
The boards chairman Lina Jebii Kilimo said that some rich families in Nakuru are secretly forcing their daughters to undergo female genital mutilation during the December holidays.

Speaking Thursday at Nakuru town, Kilimo said that the most affected areas are Molo,Njoro,Rongai and Subukia.
"FGM is still going on in some areas of Nakuru and its sad because this practice is being propagated by rich families and the parents doing that are educated people,"said Kilimo.
She Added "these parents secretly take their daughters to undergo FGM in private hospitals especially during the December holidays,".
Kilimo called on the provincial administration to stop being part of the outlawed practise but instead help fight it. "Chiefs should stop being part of this vice but they should help us end it," she said.
