Female assistant chief attacked during operation against illicit brews

Laikipai - An assistant chief from Laikipia County was left with serious injuries after she was attacked by brewers.
According to Jane Muchui, who is the Karandi Sub location Assistant Chief, she was leading two security officers in operation against illicit brew within her area when she was allegedly locked up in a house and beaten by the suspect.
Mrs Muchui said that she had stormed into one of the houses as the two police officers manned the brewer and clients outside the house against escaping when the suspects locked the door behind her and started attacking her.
“I was leading two officers to the home of one of brewers’ when several people locked me up in the house and started attacking me. They later escaped through the window to avoid arrest from the security officers who had come to my rescue after hearing the commotions,” she said.
Speaking at a Private Hospital in Nyahururu town on Monday, where she was treated with a broken hand and several injuries on her chest, the assistant chief said that the security officers only managed to arrest one suspect while others who she said were drunk managed to escape during the Sunday evening incident.
The incident comes barely a week after three other chiefs from the area received leaflets threatening then with death.
The three, Kimaina Location Chief Joseph Muraya Waithaka, Joseph Gathiru, Sironi and their Mutitu location counterpart Eston Maina have since recorded statements with the police at the Nyahururu Police station.
