Kirinyaga - A family get-together turned into mourning after a class seven pupil drowned in River Sagana in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The 13-year-old girl slipped into the river while playing with her colleagues as the over 23 families were meeting at a local hotel.
The families from Kerugoya constituency were having a good time at the tourist camp site when the sad incident occurred.

“We were having a family gathering at the hotel while children were having fun outside, near the river. Suddenly one child brought us a report that one of them had slipped into the river,” said Erick Mugo, a relative.
He said efforts to find her in the cold waters were futile as she had already been washed away.
He said local residents and police officers are assisting the family in tracing the girl.
