Nairobi - A man believed to be behind a gang selling bhang to school children in Kasuku area, Nyandarua County has escaped after administrators stormed his hideout.
The security team led by Weru division Assistant County Commissioner Ms. Gloria Akinyi, netted a parcel containing bhang, hidden in the man’s house bordering Weru Secondary school.
“The business of selling bhang here at Kwa Meja village started with a former Prisons employee who has been recruiting other dealers”, the administrator said.
She noted that drug abuse among youths in the area had been blamed for increased incidences of rape, defilement and muggings, with culprits pointing fingers at the man, well known as an ex prison warder.
Area Administration Police head Mr. Samuel Mutura who accompanied the team noted that the village had been acting as the landing point for the drug from Nakuru County.
“He has managed to escape to the forest but we will catch up with him since he is a well known person here”, said the AP boss, Mr Mutura while lauding the residents for tipping off the police.
Although there are reported cases of bhang being grown in the County, the administrators said they had done their best to contain it as most of it comes from outside, mainly Nairobi, Nakuru and beyond
