EACC arrests policeman for soliciting bribe from illicit brews trader

Nairobi - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested an Administration Police officer for soliciting KES.13,000 bribe from an illicit brews trader.
EACC Upper Eastern region director Ignatius Wekesa said police constable Simon Kanyaru attached at Anthubeigo AP post in Tgania West, was arrested while taking KES.2,000 from Bernard Mitheu, the illicit brewer.
Speaking to journalists in Isiolo town, Wekesa reported that two more police officers from the same AP post are being sought for the same offence of abetting illicit brews.
He added that the police officers had demanded KES.50,000 from the chang’aa brewer who negotiated the amount downwards to KES.13, 000.
He said the officers were accosted as they went for the balance of KES.2,000 after having earlier on taken KES.11, 000.
Wekesa said the officer is being held at Isiolo police station and will be arraigned in court after investigations.
He said public servants must uphold integrity while executing their duties adding that the officers contravening the regulations would be arrested and prosecuted
