Drunk driver slams into Nairobi estate barrier, kills guard

Nairobi - A drunk driver slammed into an estate barrier in Nairobi killing a guard on the spot.
The incident took place Monday night in Nairobi's Runda estate where the driver, in a Range Rover Vogue slammed into the barrier killing the guard on the spot.
The body of the guard could be seen lying on the ground, witnesses told News24.
" I was heading home when I saw the barrier had been knocked down," Alex Mcrae, a Runda resident told News24. The driver was seriously drunk and had killed the guard. We intervened and called Police to the scene," he said of the incident.
On contacting Police, the driver as identified as Joel Kibe who is a director at motor company CMC (Cooper Motors Company).
A guard who was at the scene said that Kibe claimed he had suffered as much damage as the deceased.

" He claimed that the damage to his car was as much as that of the guard who had died. It was maddening," the guard who asked not to be named told News24.
Kibe was allegedly taken to the Gigiri Police station but on arrival at the station, News24 could not find any official record of the incident taking place on the station's occurrence book.
On speaking to Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome, he stated that he was not informed of the situation but would follow up.
If found guilty, drunk driving leading to death is treated as homicide (murder) according to the country's laws.
