Kampala - A group of 10 drug addicts have attacked Mubende police station in central Uganda and exchanged blows with policemen.
The addicts were reportedly attempting to break into police cells to rescue their colleague who was arrested Sunday on rape suspicion.
According to Mubende district police commander, Alex Wabwire, on arriving at the police station, they grabbed policemen at the counter and attempted to wrestle them down.
''Their colleague, Erias Kibarya was arrested for raping a woman Sunday. His fellow drug abusers invaded the police station with intention of rescuing him,'' said Wabwire.
He said they seemed to be intoxicated with drugs when they raided the police station.
Police overpowered them later and put them behind bars. They were reportedly found with rolls of marijuana in their pockets.
However, 4 policemen sustained injuries during the fight.
Wabwire has warned youths against abusing drugs especially marijuana.
