Does stress from either side affect your relationship severely

27 September 2016, 17:55 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - The thing with stress is that you never see it coming and affecting your other areas.

For example, you have stress from work, you do not leave it there so you go home and the first people you see don’t even know what is going on.

You do not talk about it but it is at the back of your mind. Something small and totally unrelated happens at home; guess your reaction. You did not even realize it and when it keeps coming back over and over again. It starts to affect your home environment. Your partner does not want to approach you or have conversation because they are worried about the moods you have been having. Same with your kids. That is when you are trying to have family time and you do not see anyone jumping up and down for it with you.

Most couples don’t know how to separate issues and explain themselves to their partner. You would rather blame it on someone else rather than be accountable for it.

Don’t snap at your partner when you find that you are irritated about something

You would rather even tell them that you will talk later other than giving an annoyed answer. Don’t be the one to close off communication lines in your relationship. It normally comes back to bite you when the said party is no longer ever interested.

Be able to separate issues

It may be work stress, financial stress, emotional stress, even relationship stress but as mentioned if you carry it with you everywhere, it affects everything. You do not want to break communication in your relationship. Talking about it helps, that way your partner understands your moods and what is happening.

Take time to cool off before interacting with your partner

It clears your head. It also gives you perspective. But if you rush in and want to address everything all at once then you mess up when you lash out for all the wrong reasons. Address everything on a clear head. If it is getting home, take time walking to the house or go to your room to cool off. If you st in front of the television, you just focus on that.
