Do you know where he lives?

20 September 2016, 18:03 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - I think you should. I am not talking about one that can be classified as a loft either; I am talking about the good old fashioned Kenyan one roomed small house.

You know the way women shy away from house dates and want to always go out? Not a bad thing for self-respect and all that.

I don’t! If a man tells me come visit me at my house; I will be there- gladly! This is one of the means I use to tell if this is going anywhere or nowhere. Saves me time and drama. I for a fact know that men are very good at pretending but your house will tell me about you; not the one you borrowed either. Because I can also tell if it is your house or not.

There is nothing wrong with a bedsitter; we all start from somewhere unless you are a forty year old in a bedsitter and now I have questions as to where you have been all this time.

Then when I enter; what is the first thing that I trip over. Is the house organized or does a hurricane pass through it from time to time? You know those guys. One shoe is over here, then the other one you cannot see except for the laces. Are the shoes even clean or they have just been piled up somewhere.  You know since it is a bedsitter, you can see the bed; so how are the sheets and how much laundry has to be moved before you can sit down. Can you even sit?

Let us not even start with the cooking section and how it looks.

You can tell a lot about a man when you visit the place he lays his head at night. That is a good indicator of whether I am ready to deal with him or not. That is how you de-clutter your life and relationships.

When you get into a man’s bedsitter, you will find instant contraception- trust me. You will just see your life juggling that child in that small space and your uterus will shrivel. No matter how good looking that man is.

Some of you just go on dates out there, go to the fancy hotels and trips thinking that is how the man actually lives until you get pregnant and you have to move in with him. Then you get the shock of your life.

Next time a man asks you to visit him; don’t be against it because you are thinking about his nefarious intentions. Save yourself a whole relationship down the drain by actually going. Trust me, that minute he has to produce the sufuria you are cooking from is the moment you will be sure as to whether you actually want to go to another date.
