Did Kimani Ngunjiri jump ship after lunch with Raila?

27 June 2016, 12:44 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - A Jubilee Member of Parliament who was among the Pangani six has denied reports that he has ditched the party and joined Raila Odinga’s ODM party.

Bahati MP, Kimani Ngunjiri said that he has not ditched the ruling party and has no plans of doing so.

He said that having lunch with the CORD leader did not signify that he had ditched the ruling coalition.

Speaking on Saturday during his homecoming party in Bahati, Nakuru County, Ngunjiri accused his political opponents of spreading propaganda that he had ditched the Jubilee party.

The MP further stated that he agreed to have lunch with Raila as a sign of reconciliation and peace.

“Some people have started spreading rumors that Ngunjiri has joined ODM simply because they saw me having lunch with Raila but I want to tell them that propaganda will take them nowhere and I am in Jubilee to stay,” he said.

“If they thought they will use that to fight me politically then they are wrong,” he said.

Ngunjiri vowed that he will continue working with like-minded politicians from both sides to preach peace in the country ahead of the 2017 general elections.

He added that it was wrong for politicians to preach and plant hatred among Kenyans and called for political tolerance from both sides.

“There is nothing wrong with Raila Odinga coming to central Kenya to seek votes and support just like we would like the President to go to Nyanza and seek for support. That is he kind of politics we should be conducting and not politics of division and hatred,” he said.
