Nairobi - Deal with the traffic Jam issue along Mombasa Road, Governor Ali Hassan Joho has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta.
A massive traffic jam has engulfed Mombasa and its environs for the last two days caused by the disintegration of roads due to the ongoing rains in the country.
The problem has been caused by a run down diversion on an unfinished section of the Mombasa- Nairobi Highway at Taru in Kwale.
It has caused a massive snarl-up with vehicles stuck at the section for as long as three days as a result.
Joho has thus called on the President to act swiftly over the matter.
"It is absolutely paramount that swift and decisive action is taken to curb the situation and completely resolve this issue," he said.
"Food supplies from upcountry have become irregular, getting cargo out of the port to its various destinations has become a challenge, and it has become impossible to even get a newspaper," he added.
"The traffic has gravely affected the economies of not only Mombasa but also Kenya and the East African region," he continued.
By time of going to press, a major police traffic unit had been sent to the section to deal with the matter which has caused suppliers and passengers huge losses.
