Mombasa - A 22-year-old girl who was crowned Miss Tourism Mombasa County in the latest edition last weekend is urging other people with disability to come out and showcase their talent.
Babelyn Mukila, who is deaf surprised many after beating other girls and emerged the top despite the fact that she is disabled.
In an exclusive interview with this writer through her interpreter Catherine Matara, Mukila said that she was very much optimistic in winning the contests after missing the chance in 2015 when she emerged the first runners up.
“I felt that it was normal. I didn’t feel any different from my contestants who are not disabled. This is why am urging all people with disability to have confidence and believe in themselves,” she explained through her interpreter.
Mukila, a student at Mombasa Technical Training Institute has now become the talk of the town, with residents calling her their hero.
She was invited to the Madaraka Celebration at Tononoka Grounds Mombasa on Wednesday where she gave a speech to the congregation.
The battle for Miss Tourism Kenya will be in Vihiga later in the June.
