Nairobi - A former CS who lost his job thanks to corruption allegations has joined the team spearheading the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto in the 2017 elections.
Davis Chirchir who is the former Energy CS in the Jubilee government has been hired by the Jubilee Party to run the campaign of the two, amongst other faces.
Chirchir is a close friend of the DP Ruto and was brought in on his recommendation.
" The former CS is now a key figure in the campaign team. He will run point together with others and was brought in by the DP," a source told News24.
Chirchir did not agree or deny when News24 contacted him.
" I cannot comment on this matter at the moment," he stated.
The team is also said to be handled by a number of President Uhuru Kenyatta's relatives, including his brother Muhoho and nephew Jomo Gecaga.
Former State House political advisor Nancy Gitau is also in the team, according to reports.
Gitau quit her role in State House earlier this year after complaining of frustration in her job but is highly thought of by the President.
Chirchir was replaced in Cabinet by Charles Keter after being accused alongside Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo of abuse of office in 2015.
It is alleged that the two colluded to embezzle KES 90 million transferred from the Kenya Pipeline Company to Kenya Power.
He was later on cleared by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC.
