County to offer free milk to ECDE pupils

Busia - Busia County Government is set to introduce milk program for ECDE pupils in all the 439 public schools, the County Executive Committee member for Education and Vocational Training Azida Ali has revealed.
Speaking in Malaba on Sunday, Azida said the department has drafted a policy document to be tabled in the cabinet for ratification.
Flanked by County Chief Officer in the department Joel Barua, the CEC member said if it becomes law, the program will be a boost to ECDE learners across the county.

Azida said the county government has also advertised 400 jobs for ECDE teachers with the applications set to close on August 7th, adding that their target is to employ at least three teachers per school in the near future.
Higher Education Loans Board students are set to receive more funding. Azida said a total of KES 78m including KES 28m which had remained in the first phase will be given to on-going and new college and tertiary students.
Chief Officer Joel Barua said out of KES107 million Education bursary, the county government had already disbursed KES 50m which was issued through wards, adding that KES 50m being mainstream bursary will be disbursed as soon as the Treasury releases funds for the current financial year.
