County staff risk being blacklisted over loan defaulting

Migori - Migori County staff have expressed fear that they might be blacklisted from getting loans following failure by the County government to remit money to their lender despite making the deduction from their salaries monthly.
Several senior County government officers who did not want to be mentioned for fear of victimization said the County department of loan recovery is deducting millions of money towards loan payment but the money is not channeled to the financial institution where they got the loans.
A scrutiny done on the pay slip of one of the top County government officers indicates that he is deducted KES 105 000 every month towards repayment of his loan but the money is not remitted.

The officers said they have tried to query the fate of their deductions but have only received threats from some senior officers in the County government.
He alleged that only deductions made from senior County government officers from the rank of County Executive Committee member and above are remitted to their lenders.
Besides loan remittance, the County workers also said deductions made toward NHIF and NSSF are also not remitted.
Failure by the County government to remit deductions made from staffs towards loans, NHIF and NSSF are among the issues that were raised by health workers when they downed their tools a month ago paralyzing health services for two days.
Officers from County loan recovery department refused to comment on the matter.
