CORD names 5 member team to choose 2017 Presidential candidate

29 July 2016, 18:26 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - The CORD Coalition has named a 5 man team to choose the 2017 Presidential candidate.

The names, which were not verified by the ODM communications chief Philip Etale, who stated that he was not in a position to state them, are a combination of chiefs from the several parties that make the CORD Coalition.

They are Bonny Khalwale, Chris Wamalwa, Timothy Bosire, Johnstone Muthama and James Orengo.

When quizzed about it, Orengo stated that they are working towards a common cause.

“We are all looking to have one common candidate who can unite us and unite the country under the CORD Coalition. That is the aim and we will seek to get the best possible candidate,” he told News24.

The talks have taken a serious turn in recent time, with the announcement by CORD co Principal Moses Wetang’ula that he would like coalition leader Raila Odinga to retire and let others try their luck.

That statement has not gone down well with ODM who insist that Raila will be the candidate come 2017.

“This is a critical period for CORD as the elections draw closer and we see coalitions name their candidates for various positions. It is vital that CORD make an informed decision to keep their members happy as well as compete against President Kenyatta,” Michael Njenga, a political analyst tells News24.

Raila will be back in the country over the weekend after a trip to America, where he has been attending the Democratic Party convention.
