Nairobi - An MP has been thrown out of Parliament for one week after insulting Speaker Justin Muturi.
Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali will be away from Parliament for one week after Muturi threw him out for insulting him and the integrity of his office.
Washiali accused Muturi of colluding with members of the Luo community to kill the local sugar industry after he ruled that proposals to kick Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero out of office over his involvement in the misappropriation of the Mumias Sugar Company was null and void.
The MP stated loudly that Muturi and members of the Kikuyu community have no interest in sugar and thus should let justice prevail.
" The speaker has ruled in favour of Luos. Kikuyus don’t grow sugarcane,” he said after the ruling.
An angry Muturi immediately called for Washiali to leave the house and not return for one week.
" You are out of order and should leave the house immediately," he said.
Washiali says that Kidero as well as others must pay for killing Mumias, which is the backbone of the Western Kenya economy.
Mumias is in huge debt and needed a KES 1 billion bailout from the government to survive the current fiscal year.
Reports from auditing firm KPMG state that most of the damage was accrued during Kidero's tenure as Mumias CEO.
