Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta visits Western Kenya and Nyanza this weekend but will CORD leaders attend the various meetings?
The visit which kicks off Saturday will take Uhuru to Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.
In Bungoma, President Kenyatta will open the Lwakhakha border point before issuing Kibabii University its charter.
Bungoma is home to CORD Co-Principal Moses Wetangula, a vicious critic of the President and his ruling Jubilee Coalition.
It is yet to be confirmed if he will attend.
" The Senator might not be there. Chances are he will not but at the moment it is not yet clear," an aide of Wetangula's told News24.
In Kakamega, it is also not yet clear if another critic of the government, Senator Bonny Khalwale will be in attendance.
" He will then meet leaders from the region for dinner at the Kakamega
State Lodge. The opening of the border post – a crossing point to Uganda, re-emphasises Kenya’s commitment to the free movement of goods,
services and people throughout the East African region," a statement from State House said.
Uhuru will also visit Kisumu on Sunday where he has been welcomed by Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyon'go.
" He is welcome as President and we urge residents to give him a good reception," he said of the visit.
On Sunday morning, the President will attend a thanksgiving service
at the Anglican Church of Kenya cathedral in Kisumu. Thereafter, he
will travel to Eldoret to meet leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu
and Nandi counties at the Eldoret State Lodge.
