Meru - An AP police officer attached to the Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor, Eliud Mate Muriithi's security detail is on the run after robbing his boss at gunpoint.
The officer who was attached to Marimanti South AP Camp stole KES 3.5 million from Mate Wednesday then fled.
The incident happened around 10.00 am as Mate was alighting from his car.
Mate had just sold a piece of property and was carrying the proceeds in the bag which the officer grabbed.
“When he (the deputy governor) confronted him, he (the AP officer) pointed his pistol at him prompting him to scamper for safety,” explained Imenti North police.
It is not clear how he knew about the money, or where he escaped to.
A manhunt for him has been launched.
