Nairobi - Kevin Ouma died in Al Adde Somalia in an attack by Al Shabaab militants on his KDF camp. His colleagues say he was a brilliant man and passionate soldier.
Ouma was among the alleged 100 soldiers killed in the attack January 15.
He will be buried this weekend.
The humble Ouma played for the KDF soccer team Ulinzi Stars and went to Somalia having just retired from the game due to a nagging knee injury.
His colleagues say he was a great man.
" I will never forget him because he had the energy and brilliance but was always humble," Lt JS Mwinyikai, head of Ulinzi Stars old News24.
" He did not back down. He was always ready to serve," he added.
James Nyangweso, his coach at Ulinzi told News24 that he would miss Ouma's presence.
" Even when he left the football team he always kept in touch. He always came to say hallo when he could. He was a loveable man," he said of Ouma.
His former team-mate Francis Onyiso told News24 that Ouma was always ready for a new challenge.
" He was ready to play and ready to try new things. He was injured but he always wanted to come back. I will miss him," he added.
Ouma's family will be handed a signed jersey by all Ulinzi Stars players and management during his burial.
