Clergymen cleanse Nyeri County Assembly after rats were dumped by protesters

Nairobi - More than 50 clergymen Tuesday held special prayers at Nyeri County Assembly to spiritually cleanse the premises a month after protesters dumped rats at the assembly.
The Pastors and Bishops led by Deliverance Church head, Bishop Mark Kariuki, walked inside the assembly while accompanied by Speaker Mwangi Mugo and prayed for over 30 minutes.
They later sprinkled anointing oil at the gate of the assembly where recently some women were sleeping while protesting passage of 2016/17 budget.
Bishop Kariuki said that the rats were a sign of poverty and primitive and so there was need to sanctify the place in order to destroy the mission of those who brought the rats.
Kariuki, while reading Psalms 11 in the Bible, prayed against corruption in the County leadership.
A month ago, Operation Ondoa Panya activists led by coordinator John Wamagata led Nyeri residents in protesting over plans to build a KES.75 million luxurious health club.
“We condemn this matter of rat ideas since it is a sign of poverty and primitive. We had to make the place holy again,” said Bishop Paul Wanjohi of New Life Church.
Only one Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Wachira Waruru was present during the occasion since the assembly is on a one-week recess.
The Speaker said as a Christian he believes the prayers and the service of the Clergymen will cleanse the assembly.
“Anybody who wants to bring his or her petition is free anytime but he should do it in a decent manner not the way the activist’s did. Nyeri County assembly will never be the same again after prayers,” said the speaker.
