Cleansing rituals held at Nyeri accident blackspot

Nyeri - Christians in Othaya turned out in huge numbers Sunday to conduct cleansing prayers at Nduyi River bridge along Nyeri-Othaya road, following a spate of road accidents at the blackspot.
The prayers were led by Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Mount Kenya West Archbishop, Joseph Kagunda at the spot that has caused deaths of many.
The worshipers had a procession from Othaya town in praise and armed with Bibles, up to the blackspot where they conducted Christian cleansing rituals for more than one hour.
The faithful said the area had become a death trap and needed divine intervention since more than 10 people have lost their lives this year at the stretch.

“We decided to hold cleansing prayers to rid the road of evil spirits. Many people have died near this bridge through road accidents some of which are mysterious,” said Njogu Warui, a participant.
He however blamed human error for most accidents and increased road carnage, saying the entire highway from Nyeri to Othaya needs responsible driving due to numerous corners and sometimes unfavorable weather.
Other dangerous areas for motorists in Nyeri include Mahigaini along Nyeri-Karatina road and Thuti and Tambaya bridges, in Tetu and Mukurweini sub-counties respectively.
The frequency of road accidents at the said blackspots has been attributed to lack of road signs, rail guards and bumps.
