City lawyer wants Senator Sonko charged with treason

15 October 2016, 11:19 Ben Wangui

Nairobi - City lawyer, Ahmednasir Abdullahi wants Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko charged with treason.

This was after the Senator was captured on camera calling himself the acting President of Kenya.

Sonko made the claims during the funeral of former Kathiani MP, Wavinya Ndeti’s husband.

"Rais Uhuru is in Togo, Deputy President William Ruto is in France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially… I am now the acting president of the republic of Kenya," he said.

According to lawyer Nasir, Sonko’s claims amount to treason and should be acted upon immediately.

When Sonko says he is acting president of the Republic of Kenya and that is legally false...he commits treason...wapi IG na DPP?” he said, joining thousands of Kenyans who took to to Twitter to condemn Sonko’s misdemeanor at the funeral that was held in Machakos Friday.

Last month, the outspoken Senator landed into trouble after impersonating the President during the visit by King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Sonko photoshopped a photo of President Uhuru Kenyatta receiving the Jordan leader and then posted it on Facebook with the caption: “I take this opportunity to welcome His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of the Kingdom of Jordan. Kenyans are the country’s true wealth and they are both the means and the object of its development process.”

This, according to KDF, was a criminal case as the Senator had suggested that he was Kenya's Commander-in-Chief.
