Laikipia - There were celebrations at Nanyuki GK prison, Laikipia County, after eight inmates completed their Kenya Certificate Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
The eight men aged between 32 and 46 had enrolled for the prison’s adult education classes and have been pursuing their education in the facility.
Speaking after the final paper Thursday, they said they were optimistic that they would pass and proceed with their secondary education.

According to Prison’s Social welfare officer, Naomi Ndwiga, the education program in the prison faces the challenge of lack of necessary learning equipment and other materials.
Ndwiga was however hopeful that the eight students would emerge top despite the challenges.
If the inmates perform well in the exams, they will be transferred to any other prison offering Secondary School education if their jail term will not have elapsed.
