Nairobi - The murder of a cancer patient at the Kenyatta National Hospital was an isolated case, the Hospital has said, urging Kenyans not to speculate on the circumstances of the killing.
The deceased, Cosmas Mutunga as found dead in his bed after having his head hit with a blunt object, according to Police.
He also had his eye gouged out.
Mutunga was admitted at the hospital's ward 8C when the incident took place Sunday at around 4 AM.
Another patient who he was sharing the room with is dumb and deaf and thus could not hear anything that took place, Police also announced.
With the public anxious about the matter, the Hospital has taken to the media to brush aside reports of the uncertainty of life at the country's biggest referral hospital.
" It is a very unfortunate situation, but it does not mean that the
security was not there. I think what we want to say at this point is
that the case is under investigation so we even don’t know as at now
whether someone came from out or someone within, so let’s leave this to
the police,” Kenyatta Hospital chief Lily Koros told a news conference Monday.
She insisted that the hospital is very safe and that the incident was very much isolated.
" I want to reiterate that there is safety in the institution because
we handle more than 2,000 patients at any time, this is why I have said
it is an isolated case," she added.
The family of the deceased patient has expressed shock at the killing and asked Police to find the killers and their reasons immediately.
The body of the deceased will undergo post mortem Tuesday.
