Bungoma riders turning into mercenaries, says Commissioner
02 February 2016, 14:03
Bungoma - Bungoma County Commissioner, Mohamed Maalim has
sensationally claimed that boda boda riders are slowly turning into mercenaries.
He said that the riders are making themselves law enforcers by lynching people suspected to be robbing and
killing their colleagues.
“We are not going to allow this. All
suspects are not guilty until the court of law finds them liable of the
offense. We will not condone these careless killings and all those found
to be engaging in merciless killings will be dealt with the deserved
forced,” he said.
Speaking in his office, the official noted that
the riders are killing innocent people whom they suspect to be motorbike
robbers without subjecting them to proper interrogation to determine if
they are guilty of the offense or not.
He noted that they are taking the
law into their hands by threatening security personnel and asking to be
given the arrested suspects so that they can lynch them.
the Bungoma we want. Any rider that will be found taking the law into their
hands will face the full force of the law. We want law abiding
citizens who will arrest and hand over the suspects to police but not
subject them to mob lynching. Killing a person will not help us
because we need to know his accomplices in the crime,” said Maalim.

Maalim faulted the riders for storming police stations and hospitals
demanding for arrested suspects to be handed over to them for lynching.
He termed the behavior as barbaric and called for proper ways of curbing the vice.
are not going to tolerate mob psychology. The arrested suspects are
very important and they can help us apprehend more of their accomplices
so that we can crack the whip on the robbery and lynching syndicate that is giving police sleepless nights,” he said.
Monday, a group of over 100 boda boda riders lynched a robbery suspect who had
been widely mentioned by his colleague currently hospitalized at Webuye sub County hospital under tight police watch after he was cornered at Matete market in Lugari fleeing with a stolen motorbike whose owner was
waylaid and killed in Tuuti village on Wednesday
“Police officers had arrested the suspect on
Friday and locked him at Bungoma police station but no complainant came
forward, so he was released on a free police bond but was cornered and
killed by the irate operators after he arrived home on Monday. His
accomplice is still receiving medication in Webuye,” he said. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
