Nairobi - Build homes for Somali refugees leaving Dadaab, CORD leader Raila Odinga has told President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The CORD leader says that the move to close the Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps whilst being an agenda for the government is not the right decision and that the move risks leaving thousands of people at the mercy of terrorists.
He says that those who will be repatriated by the government will be thrown deep into enemy territory which is not good at all.
soldiers are being killed in Somalia, what of these civilians from Dadaab. You
are sending them to their graves,” Raila said.
said the government should put on hold the repatriation process and set up
homes in Somalia for the refugees before sending them home.
" The government should consider building them homes and a safe haven to go to so as not to be counter-productive," he added.
The government has insisted that the camps have to be closed as they are a security threat and a burden on the country, saying they have not received any help from foreign lands to run the camps.
The camps hold at-least 350,000 refugees.
