Nairobi - The Jubilee Party has been backed in Ukambani by a section of elders, a boost as the battle for votes in the region continues ahead of the 2017 elections.
During a meeting at Heath CS Cleophas Mailu’s Makueni home Sunday, the Cabinet
Secretary sought the support of Ukambani Council of Elders in some
of the Government’s projects in the area.
The CS called on the region to back Jubilee and see enhanced development in the region.
" Jubilee is a partner to trust. If they can trust us with huge positions and we did not vote for them in 2013, what about after?," he asked.
He stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta had shown that he was willing to support the region in any way he can and called on stakeholders o back him.
" The President has shown through actions that he supports development in Ukambani. Now let us back him in 2017," he added.
The region is the political zone of Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper Party leader who is also the CORD Coalition deputy leader.
Besides the elders, other leaders present during the meeting
included MP's Michael Kisio (Mbooni) and Joe
Mutambo (Mwingi Central).
Both leaders quit the opposition for the Jubilee Party in August.
