Nairobi - Boda Boda riders will protest the decision to ban them from operating in the Nairobi Central Business District by Governor Evans Kidero.
Kidero Monday, said motorcycle operators were banned from carrying passengers to and from the city centre with immediate effect.
to the provisions of the Traffic Act CAP 403 of 2014 of the Laws of the
Republic of Kenya, the Nairobi City County Government wishes to inform
all motorcycle (Boda Boda) operators ferrying passengers to and from the
Central Business District (CBD) that such activities have been banned
with immediate effect,” he said.
The operators though, do not want to hear anything of the sort and have stated that they will protest the decision.
" We have done nothing wrong. We have cooperated with the authorities, have stuck to the guidelines drawn for us so I see no reason why they have made this decision," an official at the Nairobi Boda Boda riders interest group that wished not to be named told News24.
It is not yet clear why Kidero took the decision but it is said to be in the interest of passengers and other motorists.
Boda Boda accidents are amongst the highest in the country and which have among the highest casualty rates in the country.
