Bizarre: Woman aborts seven months old foetus and hacks it to death

30 June 2016, 21:11

Nakuru - A 33-year-old woman in Nakuru County, Kaptembwa Estate has been accused of aborting her seven months old foetus before hacking it to death.

Immaculate Achieng, appeared before Chief Magistrate David on Thursday for fetal murder of her unborn child.

It is alleged the accused mother of three has formed a habit of aborting unborn babies when they are around eight months to delivery.

In her defense, Achieng denied the charges adding that she had delivered the baby at home and believed that it was dead thus wanted to bury it.

However medical reports from Nakuru Provincial Hospital (PGH) showed that the baby died six hours after birth and was strangled to death contradicting the her statements.

Mrs.Achieng was rescued and later arrested by police after irate residents wanted to burn her alive following reports that she had aborted yet another unborn child at a latrine and tried to cover up the crime by cleaning the scene.

After investigations bt the police, body of the premature baby was found shortly afterwards stashed in a black polythene bag inside her home.

The court had earlier directed that Achieng be taken for a psychiatrist examination and later to attend the postmortem of the baby pending hearing if the matter on September 8.
