Angry residents kill 6 thugs in botched Nairobi robbery

26 February 2016, 08:07 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Residents of Riruta in Nairobi have roughed up and killed 6 suspected thugs after a botched robbery in the estate.

The incident took place just after 5 AM when the residents were alerted of the thugs attempting to gain access to a wholesale shop in the area.

They ganged up, cornered the thugs and beat them to death.

The thugs are said to have been known by residents, with most of them aged between 18 and 21. They are said to be boda boda riders who have been supporting crime in the area.

" We are tired of these thugs," Joel Ngarire, an area resident told News24.

" Police are slow always. We have complained many times because they are very well known, so we have taken matters into our own hands," he added.

Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome confirmed the incident.

" Yes. 6 thugs have been killed by irate residents in Riruta. Those are the only details I have at the moment," he stated.

Riruta has a usually high crime rate, attributed to its proximity to Kikuyu area which has for years been described as one of Nairobi's hottest crime areas.
