Anger as leopard kills 10 goats in Laikipia

Nyeri - A farmer in Nyakumu village, Laikipia County is counting losses after 10 of his goats were killed by a stray leopard on Tuesday night.
The animal is said to have strayed from Loldaiga Ranch.
The farmer, Wilson Muthura said the leopard broke into the goats’ shed and killed the 10 goats.
It escaped after the farmer alongside his sons moved went check what was happening after hearing some commotion in the shed.
Some residents who visited the homestead after the incident slaughtered the goats and feasted on the meat as the leopard only sucked blood.

Muthura said cases of human-wildlife conflict have increased in the area lamenting that on Sunday night, a hyena killed a calf.
A resident, Isaac Githu, said a fence that had earlier been erected to guard wild animals from accessing residential homes in Loldaiga and Ole Naishu conservancies are currently run down.
He said elephants have been roaming the village in the evenings and early mornings, sparkling fear among residents.
Githu called on the government to speed up compensation of victims of attacks by wild animals.
However, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers brought a trap in efforts o nabbing the leopard.
