Alarm as thugs rob motorists at gunpoint on Lang'ata road
11 February 2016, 14:54
Nairobi - Incidences of thugs stealing from motorists on the bypass just off Langata Road have raised alarm among city residents.
The bold thugs place nails on the road which is still under construction just after the Ole Sereni Hotel turn off which deflates motorists' tyres.
When motorists stop to change tyres, the thugs strike and steal from them at gunpoint.
Alexander Mutua was recently a victim of the thugs.
" It was around 4 PM when I noticed my left hand side front tyre was flat. When I stopped to change, three men approached me like they wanted to help but then one produced a gun and told me to get into the vehicle," he said.
" They took all that they could carry. My phone, money, laptop and a few other things," Mutua added.
He said that he reported the incident at the Lang'ata Police Station but that to this day he has got no feedback.
" Police have been quiet ever since," he said, three weeks after the attack took place.
Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome stated that he was aware of the incidences.
" We urge members of the public to be wary," he stated, saying that a search was already underway to arrest the thugs.
Most of those who suffer badly are truck drivers who are forced to use the route.
Ahmednajib Hassan also fell victim to the thugs.
" Four of my tyres were deflated and I literally had to stop because I could not go far with 40 tonnes of weight on flat tyres.
" They stole all the money I had, mobile phones and clothes," he added.
